RESOLUTIONS TAKING BY THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON IKERE AGENDA 2018 AT ITS MEETING OF 16th JUNE, 2017 HELD IN IKERE-EKITI. ASPIRANTS IN ATTENDANCE • Dr Wole Oluyede • Chief Abiodun Aluko • Chief Sesan Fatoba • Chief Bisi Omoyeni A. OPENING The meeting commenced at 12:40pm with an introductory speech from the Committee Chairman; Barrister F.S. Ogundana. He once again traced why there was a need for IDF to carry out the exercise of screening aspirants for the Governorship race coming up in 2018. Among these were: • The number of aspirants was too large • The body language of the incumbent Governor was not suggestive of his readiness to vacate the seat • There were insinuations that Governor Fayose’s promise to favour an indigene of Ikere for the exalted office after the expiry of his tenure was also given to some other people outside Ikere-Ekiti. In essence, it was believed that the Governor was only playing politics to stabilize his administration. The Chairman therefore asked for comments from the floor of the house for a way forward in ensuring that Ikere-Ekiti does not lose out in the race come 2018. The 1st Vice President of Ikere Development Forum; Mr. Femi Ekundayo, corrected the impression that the project of identifying a leading candidate from each of the major political party is an IDF project. He maintained that it is an Ikere agenda being mid-wifed by IDF (Ikere Development Forum). Hence it requires the embrace of all and sundry in Ikere. He stressed that the mandate was to exercise the caution of having the candidate(s) emerge through a transparent process. He maintained that the objective at the meeting included information gathering to guide and secure the party(-ies) candidacy for Ikere-Ekiti come 2018. Governorship race in Ekiti State. • Major opinions and comments at the meeting resolved that though the more the number of aspirants, the merrier, it was also noted that the number could be unwieldily to manage if caution was not applied on time. • Tenure elongation being canvassed by the state Governor requires Court interpretation. We may not need to wait endlessly till it is suitable for the Governor to vacate the seat. • The Governor was only testing the waters as his heart does not lie with our ambition. Hence we are not sure if he ever had the intention of having an aspirant from Ikere as the party candidate. Other opinions being canvassed were: • Could there be cooperation among aspirants through consensus, weighing the strength of each aspirants. There was therefore the call on the two main parties to subsume their interest to that of Ikere.

Noted that time was not on our side as more aspirants were declaring their intentions from other climes. The meeting later resolved that it was only IDF that could solve the impasse by using her parameter to conduct the selection process. The meeting also believed that IDF would be an opinion moulder which would depend on the popularity and acceptability of the candidates in all the nooks and crannies of Ekiti State. One other major issue that was discussed at the meeting was the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voters registration exercise. There was a huge clamor for IDF support and sponsorship of its awareness programme to garner the voting population for IkereEkiti. The Chairman noted that despite the fact that invitation was extended to all the nine(9) aspirants from Ikere, only these four presented themselves for the exercise. At the end of the general meeting, the four aspirants that were present were invited one after the other into an inner room for screening by the Committee members. A. SCREENING PROCEDURE 1.
