About Rob Thompson. After studying mathematics at Bristol University, RT joined a 3 year project to finance and organise a 10 month University of Bristol/British Museum of Natural History field study and collection in the Venezuelan cloud forest. Involving scientists from several nations, the team conducted studies in canopy insect ecology, plant diversity and bat foraging patterns. Originally recruited into the group for his climbing skills (for the work in the canopy) he went on to co-lead the entire project and was responsible for coordinating all of the scientific work. Rob Thompson has worked both in industry and with research scientists. He has over 10 Giving a talk at the Max Planck years experience helping not-for-profit Institute for Plant Breeding Research, Cologne. organisations and groups in the public and private sectors to optimise their interpersonal relationships and group management. His multidisciplinary experience means he is uniquely placed to bring the most appropriate practices to the scientific arena. By combining his extensive knowledge of people-management with his experience of training and leading groups, RT gives workshops to help scientists optimise their interpersonal relationships and group management skills. He is dedicated to maximising the overall performance and productivity of scientists by improving their interpersonal and leadership skills - transferable expertise that they can use wherever their careers take them. His workshops provide scientists with the necessary soft skills to deliver hard results. He has delivered workshops in many of Europe’s most prestigious research institutions including the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (Martinsried/Munich), the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (Cologne) and the Max Delbrück Centre (Berlin) as well as in numerous international graduate training programmes such as the Graduate School of Life Sciences (University of Würzburg), the Otto Stern School (Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt) and RWTH (University of Aachen).
