Make LED extension wires long enough to reach convenient location near monitor

Notes: 0. Remove a 5cm length of insulation near the female end of a VGA extension cable. Don't nick the shield wires. 1. Carefully tease the shielded green wire from the shielded VGA extension cable without breaking any wires 2. Carefully tease the center conductor from the green wire shield without breaking any wires. 3. Shave the green insulation to expose a small section of the green center conductor. 4. Solder a small insulated wire to the center conductor, then cover the solder joint with insulation (tape or glue). 5. Wrap the green shield back around the green wire. Check for shorts. 6. Solder a short length of different colored insulated wire to the green shield. 7. Carefully stuff the wires back into the main shield. Wrap with tape, leaving 2 short wires exposed. 8. Add resistors and transistor to short wires. Add LED extension wires and power supply wires. Title 9. LED should blink glow with video. DOS mode Timex code makes LED talk to watch.

History: I like my DataLink watch. I bought a new LCD monitor. It didn't talk to the watch. I called Timex and they said that the notebook adapter device was no longer made and there was no way they could get any technical informatioin for me. I found info at www.geocities.com/alex+kosorukoff/dl_adapter.html that led me to build this circuit. It works by flashing the LED at the same rate the bars appear on the monitor. It doesn't seem to affect my video quality so I can leave it connected all the time.
