These gift cards are a powerful way to share abundantly, remind a politician of the generosity of the Australian community, and support the development work of these partners. This campaign is a joint action of the Make Poverty History and Micah Challenge Coalitions. http://www.makepovertyhistory.com.au/christmas-‐card-‐action/
Instructions 1) 2-‐4 weeks ahead Introduce the action to your group. Order your gift cards from one of our agency partners (links above) so they’re ready for your day of card writing. Including one of these gifts in your card to the MP is a powerful reminder of Australian generosity 2) One week ahead: • Remind the group that the following week you will be writing Christmas cards to your politician. • Ask people to bring a stamp, or a 55 cent donation (and money for the gift cards if you plan to include them as well). • Ensure you have the correct address for your MP. 3) On the day: • Set aside 20 – 30 minutes during or after your school or group meeting for people to write their cards. • Set up a writing table with cards/card-‐making materials, information, sample text, tips for writing to a politician, pens and gift cards from one of Make Poverty History’s partner agencies if you’ve chosen to include them. • Encourage people to use the sample text, but to personalise their cards as well. • Ensure that cards have stamps and correct addresses. • Take high-‐quality photos of your event • Post cards to your politician or (even better) deliver in person. 4) After the event: • Let Make Poverty History know that your group took the action, tell us how many cards were sent and email us some of your best photos to
[email protected]. • If you receive a reply from your MP please forward it to
[email protected] or post a copy to Make Poverty History, Level 3/130 Little Collins Street Melbourne 3000.
