Happy September Birthday: Mary Farmer Rita Tonini Lee Richardson Dayle Cabral Ashley Campbell Ed Wong

Dear Becky, I L-O-V-E this photo! This is our own Dr. Maes treating our little patient who presented with cold-like symptoms. His parents have recently moved to Louisville to attend the seminary. They left family, friends, work, and health benefits to fulfill a vocation. We were delighted to be in their service.

Welcome! Bienvenidos! Jessica Ball RN Latoya Jones Sarah Turi RN Kendall Diebold RN Elizabeth Rouse MD Bobbi Jo Beyerle APRN Beverly Cebe CNA Bethany Cox MD Sonia Rojo Mary Farmer Mary Lee Fischer Catherine Hammond MD Jenni Herndon Mary Hyde Terry Weiss MD

Volunteers like Dr. Maes and you are the reason we are celebrating the Family Community Clinic on October 13th from 5-7pm with a family-style birthday party! I hope you can join us!

THIRD TIME IS CHARMED! Thursday night sessions are in full swing! We are offering established and new patients appointments on Thursdays evenings. A VERY special thank you to Angela Cao, Pam King, and Maddie Cronin. These dedicated volunteers were at the FCC when we opened our Tuesday night sessions in February and were with us on our first Thursday night opening! The clinic is now open Tuesdays 5-9pm, Thursdays 5-9pm, and Saturdays 8-12pm. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for any session.

Here's what our patients are saying.... What I like best about the clinic: "How everybody was so friendly and helpful with me" "That I was listened to" "The holistic approach to prevention" "The nurses are so attentive" "I am so happy to have had my blood pressure and sugar checked, and to know that I am OK." "Thanks so much for being there for our family"

A Closer Look... Be sure to check out The Other Side of Immigration, a thoughtful look at immigration, it's causes, and it's hardships from the perspective of Mexican migrants and their families. The documentary is filmed, produced, and translated by Roy Germano, son of FCC's own Dr. Germano. Roy Germano has a Ph.D. in Immigration Studies from the University of Texas. The insights and experiences of those who have crossed the border on multiple occasions provides a firstperson perspective on why people migrate, however reluctantly, the lives they lead here in the U.S., and their struggle to return to their families. A copy is available by talking to Tyler at the FCC.

We still need help staffing October! Don't be shy, sign up online. For your Login and PIN email us at [email protected]

FCC Interpreters Bridge the Gap "I will repeat everything you say, exactly as you say it..." Six of our volunteer interpreters have now completed the Bridging the Gap Certificate for Medical Interpreters! The FCC sponsors volunteers interested in completing the 40-hour training, offered through Catholic Charities, in exchange for a subsequent commitment of volunteer hours. Just another example of how we strive to ensure excellence and professionalism in every way and at every position. When I began interpreting this spring at the Family Community Clinic, I immediately had questions. Being the bridge between a provider and the patient is a situation like no other I've experienced. The interpreter is necessary, but also in the way. The relationship between a doctor and a patient is private and personal but when they don't speak the same language they need an interpreter and that alters the whole dynamic. The Bridging the Gap training was an excellent step-by-step description of how to perform the job of interpreter in a professional manner. I found it very useful and I am a lot more comfortable in the role.

We are welcoming new volunteers each week. Our family at the FCC is growing and that is a wonderful thing! Each new volunteer brings the potential to serve more patients and families in need of free, accessible, high quality health care. Thank you!
