AFTERNOON READINGS AND CONVERSATIONS WITH WRITERS 28th Annual Rutgers–Camden Summer Writers’ Conference

Some of the nation’s most talented contemporary writers will lead the intensive series of workshops, lectures, and meetings for this prestigious annual conference. These acclaimed authors of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry will read from their works throughout the conference. Featured writers have been recognized with national and international awards. The reading series is open to the public and free. Refreshments will be served. Readings begin at 1 p.m. in the Stedman Gallery, Fine Arts Building. Presented by the Department of Fine Arts and the Summer Session Office, the Mallery Concert Series continues its tradition of entertaining the campus community and the general public with live music during the summer months. The concert series is under the direction of Dr. Joseph Schiavo, clinical assistant professor of music and associate dean for undergraduate education. SUMMER ART SOUP 2013

Presented by Rutgers–Camden Center for the Arts You can’t miss “Tall Tales with Kyle J.” Everyone’s favorite storyteller, Kyle Jakubowski, will weave his delightful word magic and captivate preschool-aged children through interactive storytelling. Each weekly session includes several different stories, which the children help to tell through call-andresponse, creative movement, and other ways that provide engaged learning and encourage a love of words and an interest in reading. After the story, the children will create an artwork inspired by one of the stories.

Presented by Rutgers–Camden Center for the Arts This summer’s Art Soup Stage Adventures presents a refreshing blend of dance, music, theater, and storytelling — you won’t want to miss it!

Who Should Attend: Children aged 3 to 6 with their parents or guardians. Groups of 10 or more interested in attending should reserve space by calling Miranda Powell at 856-225-6202

Storytelling Adventures

Each week brings different stories based on this summer’s theme of “Dig Into Reading.” Story sessions are repeated four times each week and are located at the Camden County Library Branch at Rutgers–Camden. Storytelling programs take place from 10 to11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon each Tuesday and Wednesday on the following dates:

Stage Adventures

Performances begin at 10 a.m. and are free, but reservations are required for all Art Soup 2013 Stage Adventures performances, which are filled on a first-response, first-served basis. Performances are held in the Gordon Theater, located in the Fine Arts Building.

ART ON CAMPUS The Stedman Gallery houses a collection of 470-plus artworks by 20th and 21st century artists with a focus on works of art on/of paper by American artists. The works displayed throughout the Camden campus include works that have been acquired over the years through donations and acquisitions, and are newly framed. Art on display includes works by Susan Chrysler White, Joe Goode, Shelley Thorstensen, Sam Maitin, Ed Matalon, Olga Moore, and Lowell Nesbitt, official NASA artist for flights 9 and 13. Please contact Nancy Maguire, associate curator for exhibitions, for more information. The gallery is closed this summer for renovations. Please visit in the fall.
