SOMFY’s only obligation shall be to repair or replace, with the least possible delay, defective equipment which does not conform to the warranty without any other indemnity relating to installation and re-installation or consequential damages.

The following are exclusions from warranty: 1. I f u s a g e , a d a p t a t i o n o r i n s t a l l a t i o n a r e n o t in accordance with our written installation and operating instructions. 2. If the product has been opened, dismantled or returned with clear evidence of abuse or other damage.

SOMFY shall not be liable for any injury, loss or damage, direct or consequential, arising out of the use of, or the inability to use, the equipment. Before using, the Buyer and/or the end User shall determine the suitability of the product for its intended use, and User assumes all risks and liability in connection therewith.

3. If our written specifications are not properly applied by the Buyer when selecting the equipment. 4. Please consult SOMFY about warranty for any uses other than the above.

The articles that are replaced pursuant to the terms of this warranty shall be retained by SOMFY. All costs related to installation and re-installation of the SOMFY equipment covered by this warranty are not the responsibility of SOMFY. The user is responsible for any freight costs relating to repair or replacement. SOMFY will not be responsible for any consequential damages during or following installation procedures.

6. I f S O M F Y e q u i p m e n t i s u s e d w i t h e l e c t r i c a l accessories (switches, relays etc.) that have not been previously approved in writing by Somfy’s Customer Support Department.

If the buyer resells any SOMFY products to another buyer or end-user, it shall include all of the terms and provisions of this warranty in such resale. SOMFY’s responsibility to any such third party shall be no greater than SOMFY’s responsibility under the warranty to the original Buyer.

General Information All Somfy motors and controls have an IP (Protection index) rating. This rating is a guide to the degree of protection required by the electrical equipment casing. The IP rating is comprised of two numbers. Each number corresponds to a degree of protection in one of the two following categories: - solid object - water

ATTENTION • Somfy motors are not toys. Do not allow children to play with the control device(s). • Somfy Motors are not waterproof. Electricity and water do not mix. • All motors mounted externally require covering. • All motors must be mounted horizontally. • Somfy motors are designed for intermittent use only. A thermal overload switch protects the motor from damage caused by overheating. • Somfy motors are sensitive to impacts. Shocks will damage sensitive parts. • Drilling into the Somfy motor may cause irreparable damage. • When installing the Somfy motor in an outdoor application always ensure a ‘drip loop’ is used. • Parallel wiring and dual switching of standard Somfy motors is strictly forbidden. See “Wiring Diagrams” section for details. • Failure to observe the above will void the warranty of the motor and may pose a significant electrical and/ or mechanical hazard.

The motor head supports the motorised roller at one end of the installation whilst providing an entry point for the supply cable. Six different mounting positions allow for easy access of the limit switch push buttons.

Push button or electronic end of travel limit switches can be easily adjusted to set the exact distance of travel in both the UP and DOWN directions.

The Somfy tubular range comprises asynchronous single phase motors with built in capacitors. They are thermally protected, totally enclosed, brushless motors.

An electromagnetic brake automatically stops and holds the load in any position.

Planetary type gears lower the rotor speed and increase the torque. The gearbox is lubricated for life.

The output shaft is the point at which the torque, delivered by the motor, is transferred to the roller tube via the drive wheel to which it will be connected.

FUNCTIONING PRINCIPLE The motor is supported by the bracket and the roller tube. The motor drives the wheel. The wheel drives the motor tube. The roller tube drives the crown. The crown turns the limit switch unit within the motor.

NOTE: Not all Somfy motors are alike the one shown above. Motor heads, limit switches, output shafts, size, weight, function and overall design can vary depending on the installation type.

What will be the theoretical weight lifted by a Vega motor (60 Nm or 6 mkg) mounted inside a Ø70 roller tube? Load = torque ÷ radius i.e 60 Nm ÷ 0.035 m = 1714 (171.4 kg) What is the motor required to lift a 90 kg load with a Ø50 roller tube? Torque = load x radius i.e 900 N x (0.050 m ÷ 2) = 22.5 Nm (2.25 mkg) As the roller tube is 50mm in diameter, the motor to choose is in the LT50 or Altus 50 range. The Gemini or Altus 25 has a torque of 25Nm, so either motor would be suitable to use.

Speed The speed shown is the rotation speed (in rpm) of the motor, and thus the roller tube. To calculate the average translation speed of the system (in cm/ sec) being motorised, use the following formula. Sm (cm/sec)

Somfy Technologies As a world leader in the development of motors for openings Somfy is committed to delivering control solutions for any installation. Listed below are the major technologies that Somfy employs in order to cover the range of varying integration and connectivity techniques around the world. Radio Technology Somfy is an exclusive remote control protocol used to operate selected Somfy motors and controllers. RTS uses a rolling code with 16million combinations to ensure that the RTS communication is safe and secure. In addition RTS has a range of up to 200 metres (line of sight) or up to 20 metres through two concrete walls. Fast becoming a standard, due to its ease of installation and its flexibility RTS is the most reliable and successful radio system on the market.

ILT

ILTv2

Intelligent Limit Technology is employed by Somfy ILT series motors. These motors are controlled by the ILT data cable with power drawn through the traditional 230v – 240v power lead. A feature of these motors is highly accurate limits. Control connection is a very simple with groups and sub-groups easily managed by incorporating matchbox size control boards on the ILT motor data cable. The addition of remote or infrared control is equally simple. Intelligent Limit Technology Version 2 uses the same connection method as the ILT motors and controllers, but incorporates more sophisticated electronics. With ILT v2 motors and controllers, integration to a BMS/HAS allows for a greater flexibility in control. ILT v2, for example, can be programmed through an AV system to lower a projection screen to suit a 4:3 format for regular television viewing, then when movie viewing is required, at the touch or a button can readjust the height of the screen to suit a 16:9 or 16:10 format. Infrared is another remote control method of operating selected Somfy motors and controllers. Infrared control is most often used in the Audio-Visual industry with infrared being an easily ‘learnt’ control method for universal remotes. Wired Technology is the most basic method of control for a Somfy motor. It uses a direct connection from a control point eg. a wall switch, to a motor, via a 230v - 240v wire. This wired technique employs two active wires, one when powered, engages the motor’s drive shaft in a clockwise rotation, the other when powered engages an anti-clockwise rotation.

DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SOMFY

RS485 is another control method that uses a two-wired bus. Due to the open source nature of the RS485 protocol many building management systems (BMS) and home automation systems (HAS) use this protocol to communicate to devices. Systems that can use the RS485 connection can be programmed to Somfy RS485 motors or controllers to operate the installation. Due to it’s open source nature, the integrator just needs to plug the device directly into their BMS or HAS without the need for additional controllers or the adaptation of peripherals.

Somfy Technologies International Bus uses a three-wire configuration to communicate to Somfy motors and controllers. Basic operations can be carried out ie. Up, Stop, Down and ‘My’ position. Many Somfy controllers use this connection method as it can be easily integrated into Home Automation or Building Management Sytems. International Bus Plus uses a four wire configuration to communicate to Somfy motors and controllers. Digital information is carried across the fourth wired used in this method in order for compatible controllers to carry out advanced functions. Basic operation is still carried out along the other three wires. Somfy’s Animeo IB+ system uses this connection method for complete façade management.

Local Outed Network is a two-wire communication method developed by the Echelon Corp primarily as a commercial building control solution. This proprietary communication is used to integrate many types of devices, from Somfy Motor Controllers to HVAC and lighting controllers. Somfy’s LON 4AC Motor Controller employs this protocol in order to directly integrate Somfy motors to this system. A specialised integrator is required to be employed for programming the device.

KNX/European Installation Bus is a proprietary two-wire communication method used to integrate many types of devices, from Somfy Motor Controllers to HVAC and lighting controllers. Somfy’s EIB/KNX 4AC Motor Controller employs this protocol in order to directly integrate Somfy motors to this system. A specialised integrator is required to be employed for programming the device. The KNX/EIB protocol is mostly employed in European made controllers for commercial buildings.

LT 28 MAIN CHARACTERISTICS & FEATURES 24V DC tubular motor. The LT28 is a SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage) 24V DC tubular motor. With a torque of 0.7Nm, it is adapted for Ø28mm tubes. ROLLUP WIREFREE RTS MAIN CHARACTERISTICS & FEATURES 12V DC Battery tubular motor. When a retrofit is required or power cannot be accessed the Roll Up Wirefree is the answer. Utilising power saving software and a reloadable battery wand, with RTS functionality and with its adaptable design, it is suitable for Ø40mm to Ø45mm* tubes. Adaptable for a wide range of common headrail sizes and drive shafts, when used in conjunction with a CTS25 can lift and tilt your blind. With an integrated torque limiter for the B64 and B83 motors or new for the range the E83 motor equipped with an integrated encoder for precise movement, the LW range is more than adequate for most installations. Over torque limiting for LW25-B64, LW25-B83.* Encoder limiting for LW25-E83.† No limit turn restrictions. CTS40 MAIN CHARACTERISTICS & FEATURES The CTS40 (Cord Take Up System) has been patented by Somfy for the even winding and tilting of a particular installation using a cord drive. Its unique design allows tilting in only a small movement and lowering / raising in a full movement in either direction using no additional components. The J5 motor is designed for the electric control of the external wooden Venetian blinds. Utilizing a two-way drive system and suited for use with Somfy’s Modulis tilting electronics to manage angle of the slats. The upper and lower end limit is adjusted mechanically by actuating the setting button. The upper end limit can also be off by the mushroom supplied with TN range only. 230V / 50Hz tubular motor. The ILT (Intelligent Limit Technology) motor has been specifically designed to provide a modular control system. Available in torques from 6Nm to 35Nm, with a flexible 48mm design, it is adapted for Ø50mm tubes and above. Utilising a 230V powered connection with a telephone wire connection for control, modules can be clipped onto the data wire to enable a plethora of control setups. The ILT motor can become IR (Infrared) compatible with just a single simple plug in, RTS (Radio Technology Somfy) with the addition of a receiver or wired control just as easily. Using a specific plug in tool for limit setting/ adjustment the great integrated control solution. Desired functionality Up to 8 separate façade zones are to be controlled. Six façades are fitted with exterior Venetian blinds (AC motors), another with interior Ventian blinds (DC-E motors). A courtyard is fitted with window motors. The HVAC system delivers opening and closing commands over a potential free contact. For the user interface an ergonomic PC software is desired. However, the PC does not have to be connected to the controlling system all the time, except when a data archiving function for sensor values, system actions etc. is desired. It should be possible later, over the OPC interface, to link with a BMS System. The management office rooms should be able

RS485 RTS TRANSMITTER The RS485 RTS Transmitter is a motor controller for all Somfy RTS motors and receivers. It converts RS485 Somfy command coming from home control systems into RTS orders.

RS485 ILT INTERFACE The RS485 ILT Interface is a motor controller for multi radio motortized systems. It can control upto 4 Somfy ILT motors.
