Playground games/Juegos de patio Psychologists consider games to be an expression of real life, where players compete to win and assert their self-esteem. But we also learn to accept challenges, to cope with our limitations and mistakes, and to

use our energy in positive healthy ways through game playing. Playground games and leisure activities in Spanish can improve children´s motivation and concentration, fixing in their memory vocabulary and oral expression. Belén Roza has a broad experience as teacher and teacher trainer in Ireland, Spain and the United States. She has coordinated international projects on teaching and learning languages. Currently she is a Language and Education consultant at the Consejería de Educación in the Embassy of Spain in Dublin.

Integrating Spanish in the curriculum El aprendizaje integrado de contenidos y lenguas extranjeras es uno de los enfoques más actuales en la enseñanza de idiomas. Se aprende o se refuerza a través de la nueva lengua una o varias áreas curriculares, parcial o totalmente. Así, la lengua que se estudia se convierte, a la vez que se aprende, en un vehículo para la comunicación y la transmisión de conocimiento. En este taller demostraremos el procedimiento para aplicar este enfoque. María Antonia Justo has been working with teachers in the field of bilingual education for twenty years, providing support both on courses and in the classroom, in Spain, USA and UK. Working with the Spanish Ministerio de Educación and the British Council, she has helped to develop and write a bilingual SpanishEnglish curriculum for children in the Foundation, Key Stage 1 and 2. She is currently working for the Consejería de Educación as a CLIL teacher for four primary schools in Liverpool teaching Maths and Physical Education in Spanish.

Fun ideas for reading It has been argued that aspects of the reading ability in the first language transfer to the foreign language learning process, and is affected by it. Written texts support and reinforce what learners hear and say, and enhance autonomy and a sense of personal relation with the new language. This workshop provides simple ideas for the practice of reading in Spanish at primary level that are fun and easy to work with. Natalio Ormeño is a Language and Education consultant for the Consejería de Educación in Manchester. Before taking up his current job, he worked at the Ministry of Education in Madrid and was involved in the management of foreign language teaching support programmes in Spain, and bilingual and Spanish programmes abroad.
