Project: A Promo Pop-Up Book Booklet Students, your promo booklets will serve as a powerful tool to motivate reluctant readers! It is a form of advertising designed to whet their appetites without giving away too much! We are going to tease them and peak their interest!

Please include the following: 1. Front Cover— Make sure your front cover is attention-grabbing! It has to include the title of the book and the author. You may design your own cover or replicate the one that goes along with this novel. 2. An Objective Summary— Students must include an objective summary for this novel. It must cover the beginning, middle, and end of the novel. Please visit the “Audiovisual” page of my website to make sure you have access to key videos on this subject. Take notes, so you can use them later.

3. Pop-Up Promos— You will design and create two of these pages. Choose two exciting scenes from this book that will entice students to read this action-packed novel! Plan which parts will pop-up and which parts will remain stationary. Please visit the “Audiovisual” page of my website to make sure you have access to key videos on this subject. Take notes, so you can use them later. Tease your audience with questions like, “Can you guess what is happening in this exciting scene from Stormbreakers?” or “What does this scene have to do with this adventure-filled novel for teens?”

4. Back Cover— On the back cover, please have a brief section that talks about the author of this wonderful novel. Make sure you cover the who, what, when, where, why, and how of the author’s life. Do not copy and paste what is printed on a website; that is easy to trace. Instead, find the information, paraphrase it, and display it attractively on the back cover!

If You Cannot Draw... Have no fear! Ms. Nimmons is providing help for you! I have some pictures that may be useful to you. Copy them onto white card stock paper and print them. Use colored pencils and markers to create and design the look you desire. Cut them out. Tape, scissors, construction paper, glue sticks, and more may be needed as well. Hint: These projects should not look “computerized”! Perfection is not the order of the day! Think outside of the box and MAKE SOMETHING NEW AND ORIGINAL!!! HAVE SOME FUN!!!

Number the Stars by Lois Lowry This is an individual project that is due for display on January 6, 2014! We will set up in the media center! See you there!

Project: A Dramatic Felt Board Main Materials: Small to medium cardboard box; scissors; felt; glue, markers, etc. Students, your dramatic felt boards will serve as a powerful tool to motivate reluctant readers! It is a form of advertising designed to whet their appetites without giving away too much! We are going to tease them and peak their interest! Please include the following: 1. Front Side A— Make sure your front cover is attention-grabbing! It has to include

the title of the book and the author. You may design your own cover or replicate the one that goes along with this novel. 2. Front Side B—An Objective Summary— Students must include an objective summary for this novel. It must cover the beginning, middle, and end of the novel. Please visit the “Audiovisual” page of my website to make sure you have access to key videos on this subject. Take notes, so you can use them later. 3. The Back Side— A felt board will cover the entire back side. You will design and recreate a scene from the book. The characters and other pieces can be made out of felt or paper. Find a way to make them stick to the felt and yet be able to be moved around. Make sure your pieces are attractive and can be easily seen from about 2 to 3 feet away. 4. Tease your audience with questions like, “Can you guess what is happening in this exciting scene from Number the Stars?” or “What does this scene have to do with this historical piece written just for teens?”
