Study of the internal and concurrent validity of the Beck Depression Inventory for primary care settings in pregnant population of metropolitan Lima, May-June 2008 Estudio de la validez interna y concurrente del inventario de depresión de Beck para atención primaria (BDI-PC) en población gestante de Lima Metropolitana, mayo – junio de 2008 Nelly Lam1,2, Hans Contreras3,4, Elizabeth Mori4, Enrique Gil4, Eduardo Espinoza3,4, Giulianna Córdova4 ________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the internal and concurrent validity of the Beck Depression Inventory for Primary Care (BDI-PC) in pregnant women from Lima, Peru. Methods: We perform an analytic observational crosssectional study at the Instituto Nacional Materno Perinatal (INMP). It included 307 pregnant women attending the Fetal Medicine Service at the INMP, from May to June 2008. To assess the concurrent validity we used the Edinburgh Depression Scale (EPDS), we also calculated Cronbach’s Alpha, Pearson's Correlation Coefficient and we performed an exploratory factor analysis with varimax rotation. Results: The internal consistency for the BDI-PC was moderate (Cronbach’s Alpha 0.683), while the internal consistency for EPDS was high (Cronbach’s Alpha 0.826). The BDI-PC was not unidimensional, it had two factors which explained 49% of the variation. The Pearson's Correlation between BDI-PC and EPDS was 0.600 (p
