PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS (Size SMALL/MEDIUM):

We will start working of the back for shrug first, which is constructed of 6 square motifs join-as-you-go along the last round. To join -as-you-go the 3-ch lps, ch 1, insert hook in the finished motif you want to be joining with, ch 1, keep working the pattern and joining as needed.

Once you have the 6 motifs are joined together to form a rectangle, we need to attached or sew together two of the edges to form the arm openings (see PICTURE 1).

Now, we will start working on the sleeves/arm openings.

Sleeves and sleeve edging (make two)

Attach yarn where you sew the two sides of the rectangle together (see PICTURE 2). We will be working in rounds to create a sleeve and the sleeve edging.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same beg ch, *[ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp], rep * across until the end of the rnd. Sl st in beg ch. Make sure you get a total of 28, 3-ch lps.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in firt 3-ch lp, *[ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp}, rep * across until the end of the rnd. Sl St in beg ch.

Rnd 3-20: Rep round 2. At the end of the rnd 20, do not fasten off, we will continuing creating the sleeve edging.

The sleeve edging is created using the 3-ch lps from the sleeve, so it’s very important that you got a total of 28 3-ch lps for a perfect edging. The edging pattern is created using multiples of 4, so you will need four 3-ch lps to create one fan set.

Rnd 21: Ch 1, sc in next 3-ch lp, **{ *[ ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp], rep * twice, 7 dc in next 3-ch lp, sc in next 3-ch lp}, rep ** across until the end of the rnd for a total of seven sets of 7-dc fans. Sl st in beg ch.

Rnd 22: Ch 1, sc in next 3-ch lp, **{ ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp, *[dc in next dc, ch 1], rep * six times in every dc, dc in last dc, sc in next 3 -ch lp}, rep ** across until the end of the rnd for a total of seven sets, sl st in beg ch.

Rnd 23: Ch 1, sc in next 3-ch lp, **{ ch 2, *[ skip dc, 5-dc pop st in ch between dc, ch 2], rep * six times for a total of 6 pop st. Skip last dc, sc in next 3-ch lp}, rep ** across until the end of the rnd for a total of seven sets, sl st in beg ch.

Rnd 24: Sl st in next 2 ch, skip 5-dc pop st, sl st in 2-ch lp, ch 1, sc in same 2-ch lp. *[ Ch 3, skip second 5-dc pop st, sc in 2-ch lp, ch 5, skip 5-dc pop st/2-ch lp/5-dc pop st, sc in next 2-ch lp, ch 3, skip 5-dc pop st, sc in next 2-ch lp. Ch 5, skip last 5-dc pop st/2-ch lp/ sc/2-ch lp/5-dc pop st, sc in 2-ch lp], rep * across until the end of the rnd. Instead working the last 5-ch lp, do as follows: ch 3, dc in beg ch.

Rnd 25: Ch1,sc in next 3-ch lp,**(ch3,sc in next 3-ch lp, 7 dc in next 5-ch lp,sc in next 3-ch lp, ch3, sc in next 5-ch lp,), rep ** until the end of rnd for a total of seven sets of 7-dc fans. sc in3-ch lop,ch3, sc in next 3 ch-lp,sc in beg ch.

Rnd 26: **{ ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp, *[dc in next dc, ch 1], rep * six times in every dc, dc in last dc, sc in next 3-ch lp}, rep ** across until the end of the rnd for a total of seven sets. Instead working 3 ch and joining with sl st, do as follows: ch 2, hdc in beg ch.

Rnd 27: Rep rnd 23.

Rnd 28-39: Rep rounds 24 through 27. At the end of round 39, fasten off and weave in ends.

This are the instructions for one sleeve. You will need to follow the same instructions for the other (see PICTURE 3).

Now, we will be working the same edging from the sleeves into the body opening of the shrug.

Body edging.

Attach yarn body opening.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in same beg ch, *[ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp], rep * across until the end of the rnd. Sl st in beg ch. Make sure that you get a total of 3-ch lps that are multiple of 4. For this size shrug, you should get a total of 76 3-ch lps, that creates 19 fan sets.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in next 3-ch lp, **{ *[ ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp], rep * twice, 7 dc in next 3-ch lp, sc in next 3-ch lp}, rep ** across until the end of the rnd for a total of seven sets of 7-dc fans. Sl st in beg ch.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in next 3-ch lp, **{ ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp, *[dc in next dc, ch 1], rep * six times in every dc, dc in last dc, sc in next 3ch lp}, rep ** across until the end of the rnd for a total of seven sets, sl st in beg ch.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in next 3-ch lp, **{ ch 2, *[ skip dc, 5-dc pop st in ch between dc, ch 2], rep * six times for a total of 6 pop st. Skip last dc, sc in next 3-ch lp}, rep ** across until the end of the rnd for a total of seven sets, sl st in beg ch.

Rnd 5: Sl st in next 2 ch, skip 5-dc pop st, sl st in 2-ch lp, ch 1, sc in same 2-ch lp. *[ Ch 3, skip second 5-dc pop st, sc in 2-ch lp, ch 5, skip 5-dc pop st/2-ch lp/5-dc pop st, sc in next 2-ch lp, ch 3, skip 5-dc pop st, sc in next 2-ch lp. Ch 5, skip last 5-dc pop st/2-ch lp/ sc/2-ch lp/5-dc pop st, sc in 2-ch lp], rep * across until the end of the rnd. Instead working the last 5-ch lp, do as follows: ch 3, dc in beg ch.

Rnd 6: Ch1,sc in next 3-ch lp,**(ch3,sc in next 3-ch lp, 7 dc in next 5-ch lp,sc in next 3-ch lp, ch3, sc in next 5-ch lp,), rep ** until the end of rnd for a total of seven sets of 7-dc fans. sc in3-ch lop,ch3, sc in next 3 ch-lp,sc in beg ch.

Rnd 7: **{ ch 3, sc in next 3-ch lp, *[dc in next dc, ch 1], rep * six times in every dc, dc in last dc, sc in next 3-ch lp}, rep ** across until the end of the rnd for a total of seven sets. Instead working 3 ch and joining with sl st, do as follows: ch 2, hdc in beg ch.

Rnd 8: Rep rnd 4. Rnd 9-20: Rep rounds 5 through 8. At the end of round 20, fasten off and weave in ends.
