Objective - Upon successful completion, the student will be able to: Explain the relationship of the US economic and market systems to the business environment. This outcome will be measured by one or more of the following: Graded homework assignments, completion and use of key terms, viewing and written / oral analysis of chapter film and exams. Instructor led lecture material is supported by Power Point, film and Internet based material from the publisher. A midterm and comprehensive departmental final, including essays, is required. b. Student initiated learning is focused on collaborative/ team based presentations that incorporate information technology various software programs and on-line and library research. Students also maintain a class portfolio that contains weekly written homework assignments, class notes, visuals and a student-generated glossary of key terms.

Activities or Assignments The historical development of American business, capitalism, labor and management are discussed in class and chapter material Use of computer technology and internet information in class is required. Course topics include: e-business, web pages, robotics, and CAD, among others. A research paper describing a public company and its stock performance is required of all students. Corporate information is synthesized and discussed analytically. Students are required to conduct research, including on line sources, for the purpose of making technologically assisted oral presentations.

Supplementary Reading: Business periodicals, WALL STREET JOURNAL, NEW YORK TIMES, BUSINESS WEEK, FORTUNE, MONEY, Corporate annual reports. The department strongly advises the use of available DVDs and videos in the library.

APPENDIX II: - CATALOG DESCRIPTION: (Approximately 65 words or less) MGT 101 Business Organization and Management 3 credits This introductory business course surveys issues that affect the initiation, organization and management of businesses in today's society which are characterized by rapid change in the economic, social, technological and cultural environments. While the course focuses on organization theory and management practices, specific topics such as ownership, economic theory, production, human resources, motivations, marketing and financial management are examined in some detail. The objectives are to provide students with a theoretical as well as a practical grounding in the basic competencies essential to understanding the operation of the business enterprise in the American and global marketplace.
