Tariqa Is About Good Manners Shaykh Mohammad Nazim Al-Haqqani An-Naqshibendi, Sohbat of the 4th of May 2012.

Shaykh Mehmet: As-Salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu. Audhu Billahi min al shaytan al rajim, Bismillahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim. Assalatu wa s-salamu ala Rasulina Muhammad Sayyidi l Awwalin wa l-Akhirin. Madad Ya Rasulullah, madad Ya Ashabu Rasulullah madad Ya Mashayikhina Tariqauna Naqshbandi Aliya. Madad Ya Shaykh Abdullah Fayiz al Daghestani, madad Ya Muhammad Nazim al Haqqani, dastur! Tariqauna sohbah wa Al khayri fil jamia' Our way is through association & blessings are in the gathering. Today we may speak a few words insha Allah, to follow Mawlana's custom. May it be useful for you, for us & for who listen insha Allah. This what we speak now. Because it is Mawlana's dargah it is becoming an address to the whole world. All mureeds/brothers are listening. So everybody take from it what is useful for them, skip what they don't like. Tariqa is, as we said before again.. What is Tariqa? It is the path that makes you reach Allah. How will you reach Allah? In schools, in maktabs.. It is not maktab but school. When you say maktab, it is like you assign them a high level. In old times they would call "maktab" but now become only schoolwhere they teach all kind of dirtiness. You may learn good manners in Tariqa. Tariqa first teaches good manners. Good manners- what kind of good manners? Allah (awj) created nations. There is no nationalism in Islam- I am Turkish, I am Arab, I am Kurdish, I am Circassian, I am Laz... If you look at it, there are more than 1000 nations in the world. If you look at it in details, it can even go up to 10 000 but now roughly there are 1000 nations. Allah (awj) granted a speciality/ characteristic for each nation just like He created each person with an attribute; such as white, black, asmar/dark, yellow, pink.. Some of these characters are good. Allah granted some of them good characters. Just like there is ego, shaytan in people; the same is with the nations. Now we won't say it one by one, to not go towards nationalism. Some are ready to sacrifice their lives for Mawlana, for the way of Allah. Some... Everybody loves money but some loves more; money is more important for them. When they see money, they can give up everything. Neither do they sacrifice themselves nor their souls, they turn to money. Some are very proud. Because of their pride, they always despise other people. And some..it is also a very bad character. Now we are saying bad ones, not good ones. Because who is good, he may continue with good. But one must get rid of bad ones. And some have hatred in them. It is the character of the nation. It is a character coming from hundreds, thousands of years before, by the Wisdom of Allah. Once there is hatred in him, he can never get rid of it. Normally he can't get rid of it. When he enters Tariqa he must get rid of it. If he still holds hatred

for his Muslim brother even after entering Tariqa, it is considered as he didn't enter Tariqa. Because after Mawlana takes them in, ok they are accepted in Tariqa but they can't go one step forward. He may say, "I am with Mawlana for 10 years". He may say "I am following Mawlana for 20 years". Even if it is 50 years, it has no benefit for that person. Unless he gets rid of his bad character, there is no way it gives him anybenefit. But if he gets rid of them, he can reach the highest levels. After Mawlana Khalid al-Baghdadi Hz, Mawlana Ismael Hz took Tariqa to Caucasian countries. Khalid al-Baghdadi Hz was dhul-janahayn (with two wings). When Hz Ismael came to him, Khalid al-Baghdadi Hz scolded him, to discipline him: "You wear calpac & push it towards your forehead like this. In your region, people are proud ones. And who has pride can't enter paradise. First he has to stop by hell fire, be cleaned from it and then he can enter". Then, he disciplined Hz Ismael to such an extent that after this he inherited the Tariqa. He became a Grand Shaykh of Golden Chain, after he was cleaned from his pride. And he took the Tariqa to Daghestan, to Caucasian countries; which means he also disciplined the people there. Like we said, there was too much pride there. They disciplined even them with their tasarruf/authority. How many Grand Shaykhs have come (from them) until reaching Sultanul Awliya S. Abdullah Daghestani in Golden Chain. When you say "I am here for that many years. I did such for that many years" after entering this Tariqa; it doesn't work this way. You, like a baby... Even for babies, 1 or max 2 year. You can't carry a baby in your arms even for 2 years. You carry 1 year, as he gets heavier you say "when will this baby start walking that we're saved from carrying him". And now, when those who come here for 30 years still remain as a baby, it is heavy. It becomes heavy on Shaykh too. Therefore, it does't work by saying; "I am here for 30, 40 years". And, the biggest of tarq-ul adab/leaving adab is to consider it like a favour, saying "I come here for 30 years". What happened if you come for 30 years? Allah says in Holy Verse:"Qul La Tamunnu `Alayya 'Islamakum Bali Al-Lahu Yamunnu `Alaykum 'An Hadakum Lil'iman (49:17). Some considered it a favor upon the Prophet (sas) that they became Muslims. Don't you ever consider it a favour upon the Prophet (sas). Allah has conferred a favour upon you that He guided you to Faith". There are thousands of men like you, not thousands but millions, billions of people who are not guided to Faith. They walk around like dozy chickens, not knowing what they do. Allah knows, they are either caught up in alcohol, or drug, or gambling addictions... Mawlana has selected you one by one & brought you to be beside him. Even after this if you speak like this, it is leaving adab. Why are we saying this? Because there are people who speak like this. This is not ghiybat/backbiting. I won't say their names but there are many people like this. When does the true nature/character of man reveal itself? In difficult times; when ego pushes & anger comes

out. This is where the touchstone is. When he is at comfort & rest, nothing shows. This is important. Mawlana has disciplined you, raised you with adab. When it is like this, then such a person can lose so much. Of course, once a person is bound to the Shaykh he won't lose him but he can't reach any high levels. He remains small, little. But if Mawlana accepted him once, he for sure doesn't let him to fire in Akhirat, with the permission of Allah. But when he is with his ego, he becomes disgraced & humiliated in dunya as well. Mawlana tells us; "who follow us will be saved in akhirat" but there is also this thing.. That Mawlana is very compassionate, too merciful. He doesn't say anything. But behind him...Mawlana is not alone. He is Sultan. Sultan has his entourage; He has his wazirs/ministers, he has his soldiers. Just like even a small country has all of this, he is the Sultan of this century. He is the Sultan of this world. Just because Mawlana got a litte bit ill, don't think that he has nothing. He shows miracles from where he sits. Everybody knows about these matters. Therefore, if ego sees man a little bit weak, it immediately attacks him. No one can rely on his ego. No matter how much one studied, learned.. The stronger a person is, the more enemies he has. The bigger a state is, the more enemies it has- They fear that it will crush them. Nafs & shaytan is the same. You made ibadat/worship for 30 years. With one word or action, all what you did is finished, wasted. This is what is important in Tariqa. If those who enter Tariqa saying, "I enter to become an awliya" they can't take anything. They should enter for Allah's rida/ acceptance. This is what is important. Our mission is only Allah, nothing else; not money, nor rank. When you do everything for Allah's acceptance, what Allah grants is better than all others. No need for anything else, with Allah's permission. This is the adab of Tariqa, for the honour of Jumaa. This is enough for now. Today we speak about adab-good manners in Tariqa- what is Tariqa?.Why we need Tariqa? We need Tariqa to teach us. What it will teach us? We can teach us in school, in university. But in this school, university - for common people; it is not teaching adab, teaching un-adab; not good behaviour, bad manners. We hear from everywhere in the school; you find every bad thing in school. But in Tariqa, giving you adab. Adab, good behaviour. And this is, Allah create people- white, black, yellow, asmar/dark...meaning many colors. And He create people, nations. Maybe roughly, maybe 1000 we can say 1000. But if you look more carefully maybe 10 000 or more, there is nations. And Allah (awj), how He give to people colors, or language or something, He give also for each nation different character. And there are good characters & there iare bad characters. If it is good characters, he continue for this.

But for bad characters, Tariqa may teach people to leave this bad character. There are some nations, they are very proud. There are some nations, their character envious. Some nations, tammah/greedy. Greedy; many people greedy but in these nations more greedy. Like this, characters. This characters, bad characters. Now we say 3 of these characters but there is more than 100, maybe thousands bad characters. Each nation, really you can find this. And when you come to Shaykh Effendi or to Tariqa, you must leave this- especially to be proud. Envious is very bad also. There is some nations like this; and this is coming not from today, maybe from thousands years. Become envious for every people. If he not speak to one, not speak at all. And this is not good. There is Hadith; you cannot not speak with your brother, Muslim brother for 3 days. And this is Shariat. Shariat, it is for common people. When you are coming to Tariqa, you must be more disciplined. And you must forget your nation's character. Must be your character Prophet's (sas) character & Islam character. And he has never been envious to any Muslim. Even who make his uncle Hamzah (ra) shahid/martyred he even forgive him. No envious. You find here in some our brothers, or in Tariqa, they become envious & they are teaching people to be envious. This is not good, this is not from teachings of Mawlana Shaykh Nazim (qs). And some of them also proud. When you leave this bad character, you become high. Especially there is a very big example for this, for Sayyidina Khalid al-Baghdadi & Sayyidina Ismael Hz. Sayyidina Ismael Hz, he is from Caucasia, Daghestan. And when he come to Mawlana Khalid alBaghdadi, he said him "Go away. Your nation, they are very proud people. They are wearing like this & they are very proud. You cannot take this". After 2 years, he come & he was completely finished from this illness. So he come & he take bayat. He take inheritance from Sayyidina Khalid al-Baghdadi. And when S. Khalid al-Baghdadi pass away, he take Tariqa to Daghestan. And many big mashayikh coming in Daghestan & thousand of mureed; he make this illness finish from all this area, from mureed. They become humble & they become mureed & they become very strong believers. And especially Golden Chain, Mawlana Sultanul Awliya S. Abdullah Daghestani, until him Tariqa was with them. This is big example. But when you coming here, you say "I am here 10 years, 20 years, 30 years.." And you not finish from your illness, this ego illness. Nothing will happen for you. You are like baby, but you are big baby. When baby small, until 1 year; people, mother, they can carry him by hand. But when become bigger, it is too heavy. Coming bigger & bigger, what is this? Hundred kilo, who can carry this? Throw him away, what he can do? Like this, when you are not going big you are still baby. Can put you in your wheelchair or something like this. This is very important. What we will teach here & Mawlana Shaykh all time giving to teach your ego to finish from bad characteristic & coming good characteristic. If you, you said "Ok little bit, I will let this ego to be rest". Quickly become monster & eat you. For this, don't say "I am 30 year, 40 year". & make if

you are big ni'mat/grant for Shaykh Effendi; "you are here 40 year". You say you are serving him, but not serving. He was looking for you. Because you are baby, he is looking for you.This is what, you are burden on him. Allah (awj), there is Ayah, said "Don't be... say we become Islam, you must be happy with us". But you must be happy with Allah. Allah, He choose you to be Islam". (49:17) It is even in time of Prophet (sas) like this ego, now also same; inheritor Sayyidina Muhammad (sas), this area also. Because when people become more strong, more strong enemy come for them. If weak, nobody looking for him. But when coming strong, strong, many enemy coming for them; especially shaytan & ego. For this, this is very important. You must be happy & even one second, you must not be happy with your ego. All the time, you must put ego under your feet. Because if little bit coming,coming out. Especially when you become angry and this is become quickly out. And what you do 30 year, 40 year, it will be finish. But in dunya, maybe when you do this.. because Mawlana Shaykh, he is Sultan. And Sultan, even small country like our country they have everything- President, prime minister, ministers, police, court, everything they have... This is for whole world Sultan, Sultanul Awliya. How he will be? He is very polite & he is very merciful. But when you do something, there is rule. If this small country they have rule, also they have rule. You are here 30 year or 20 year, 10 year & you do something, you will be punished. You will be punished but punish, after this, don't say "why it come for me this punishment"? But in dunya, like this. In akhirat, also your station not become up. You will be small also in Akhirat. When you make not good behavior with Sultan or with mureed. Because like in university or in school, you have examination. Also there is examination; somebody go up, somebody come down. But you are taking bayat. Who taking bayat, they- mashayikh izam, they promise they will be not going to fire, to hell. They will save them insha Allah. Last breath, with iman we will come. This is good but better, thousand times better than this, when you be with mashayikh in akhirat. Because this dunya, quickly going. And Shaykh Effendi all time saying; "this dunya quickly finish, quickly finish..." And people, some of people not listening this. And it is not difficult, not difficult at all to be like good behaving. "Yassiru wa la tuassiru, a bashshiru wa la tunaffiru". All time Allah (awj) saying: "Be easy with people. Don't fight. Especially with Muslim brother, Tariqa brother. Don't fight with them. This is the most of Mawlana Shaykh teaching. Summary, yes. He is merciful; very, very merciful. Allah give him long life, to be with Sayyidina Mahdi (as) insha Allah. Wa min Allah at-tawfiq, Al Fatiha. Bayat.
