As part of its Connecting Arts-N-Schools educational and community engagement programming, the Mann Center for the Performing Arts is proud to welcome worldrenowned jazz trumpeter, Terence Blanchard, to Philadelphia for a series of master classes with promising young jazz musicians from the Girard Academic Music Program and the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. Blanchard will coach, inspire and educate the students over the course of two days of programming. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will culminate in a concert performed by the students under Blanchard’s direction. Born and raised in New Orleans, Terence Blanchard is one of jazz’s most remarkable trumpeters, composers, arrangers and bandleaders. He is famous for his many film scores including Red Tails, Princess and the Frog, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, Clockers, Summer of Sam and Inside Man, as well Broadway scores, an opera and his 40 albums. In addition to his musical accomplishments, Blanchard is a proponent and leader of music education.

Wednesday, April 17 Girard Academic Music School / 10:00 A.M. – 11:45 A.M. (22nd & Ritner Streets, Philadelphia)  Girard Academic Music Program and Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts students will give a final performance under Blanchard’s direction

ABOUT THE EDUCATIONAL & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS AT THE MANN The mission of the Education Department at the Mann Center for the Performing Arts is to give every young person the opportunity to be exposed, inspired, and enlightened by the performing arts, providing the opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and rhythms that are the magic and richness of live performances – often for the first time.
