Cried Wolf The Boy Who

H ave you ever heard the story of the boy who cried, wolf? Well, let me tell it to you....

Once there was a poor man who sent his son to take their sheep out to pasture. They didn't have very many sheep, so he told the boy to watch them carefully because they couldn't afford to lose even one. Then he told him, "And if you see a wolf, yell and shout as loud as you can so everyone in the village can come and chase the wolf away".

That little boy learned an important lesson that day. Once you start to trick people and tell lies, no one will ever believe you. Even if you are telling the truth.

When they got there all they found was the little boy laughing at them saying "Just kidding, there's no wolf. But all of you sure can run fast" They were all really mad and they told the boy "You know, we've got better things to do then to come running out here for nothing. So don't ever do that again" Well, everyday the boy would sit all alone, watching the sheep and thinking, this is borrrring. I wish a wolf would come. At least then there'd be something exciting happening. Then one day he had an idea. He jumped up and cried "Wolf, wolf come quick there's a wolf, a wolf" Sure enough, his father, his mother, the farmer, the butcher, the baker, even the candlestick maker all came running to help.

Soon after the sheep started to graze, the boy saw a dark shape with glowing eyes, sneaking around in the shadow of the trees. "Wolf, wolf” he cried as loud as he could. The animal growled and crept up even closer.

The boy promised he wouldn't play anymore tricks. But a few days later he got bored again and thought how much fun it was to see everyone come running all the way from the village. So he stood up, took a deep breath, and cried "Wolf, wolf come quick there's a wolf, a wolf" And one more time, his father, his mother, the farmer, the butcher, the baker, even the candlestick maker came running as fast as they could, all the way from the village.

But there was no wolf. And even though the boy said "There was a wolf, I swear. He ran away when he heard you coming". No one really believed him though.

Now the very next day the boy took the sheep out to the meadow just like he did every day.

"Wolf, wolf" cried the frightened little boy, but no one came to help. Just then the wolf jumped out and onto one of the sheep and dragged it back into the forest.
