Group Discussions Group discussions will be held during each class meeting until we have finished reading the book. Group discussions will give you an opportunity to confirm your understanding of the assigned reading as well as share your thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Preparing for Literature Circle Meetings  Read the assigned pages and complete your discussion worksheet before class begins.  Be prepared to present your findings orally to your group.  Listen to your group members and engage them in discussion.  One person in the group will volunteer to be the discussion director. He or she will be in charge of leading the discussion and making sure each member of the group contributes. He or she will also report back to the class and share the highlights of the group’s discussion. Grading Procedures  Reading The Hunger Games and completing related assignments are worth a significant portion of your overall grade (20% = 2 letter grades).  At each meeting, your group will turn in a folder with each member’s discussion worksheet.  Make sure that the group discussion continues for the entire allotted time. Groups that end their discussion early will not receive full credit.  Students who do not bring their completed assignment with them to class will not participate in discussion. They will instead use that time to get caught up on the reading and may turn in their assignment for half credit (50% = F).
