We need you! Yes, you! There is no one more important to the transformaon and growth of this church than you. Why? Because, well because you are a very special person, gi ed by God with amazing talents, skills and aptudes for so very much. Because you are filled with love and grace, because you are welcoming and because your smile lights up the heart of all who meet you. We would not be the church without you.

The church is ge&ng ready to get busy; we have events, seasons, prayer staons, fellowship, community, Advent and all kinds of things coming up, and you play a vital role in the success of all of it. But amazingly, there is no pressure to do and be anything but who you are. I ask you to share this church with others. Bring a friend, tell someone, share the love that you have found here with another. I promise, they will be just as important as you are.

A Challenge for You

Sometimes there is a book you read that changes your life. It reaches into your soul, flips switches, brightens your day, and just changes the way you look at your tomorrows. There have been many such books in my life, but one of them speaks to the journey of this church. It is not a novel, or a book of great religious relevance. It does not speak of God or Christ per se, but does speak to the journey of faith. The book is called “Write It Down, Make it Happen” by Henriette Anne Klauser. This book speaks to the power to be found in giving a visual voice to your hopes and dreams by writing down, in as concrete form as possible, what it is you need or want. It talks about creating vision boards through pictures and tangible items, and of the growth that can take place as you articulate in this way your dreams for your tomorrows. This is not a novel concept by any means. People have been writing down their hopes and dreams for ages, doodling their dreams of love, home or car in their notebooks or tearing out the pictures of decorating ideas to put in a dream folder. Nothing new, just more detailed. Here is my challenge to you and the church: help me build a vision board. Sit down and prayerfully consider what this church will live as in 2019. That is five short years from now. Some of the questions to ask and answer are: What will our membership look like? Think about the number of people, ages, and what they might be interested in. What types of outreach will the church be involved in? What about Mission work? Will there be a church bus? A prayer garden? A labyrinth? What about the building? What does it look like? Do we still have a ramp or is it an elevator or a ground floor sanctuary? Get as detailed as possible, write it down, draw pictures, tear out magazine pictures or whatever sets your creative juices flowing. Look at it often over the course of the next two weeks. Tweak it, build on it, fine tune it, and then, during the week of August 12th, send them to me. You can email, mail, and bring it to church or whatever. What for? Glad you asked. From your ideas and articulated needs and hopes, the Vision Team will begin the process of bringing a solid vision of Disciples Christian Church, 2019, into place and then looking at what needs to happen to make that a reality. But the process starts with collaboration. This church does not live in a vacuum; it lives in your hopes and dreams. It is not just my church, it is our church, it is Christ’s church and it is God’s church. You are part of all of this. Give your vision, your hopes, your needs a voice.
