The best way to help your child here will be to listen to the story in French and point to the appropriate caption in the book. Add a picture of a bee, a fly and a ladybird to your ‘wall collection’ and practise the words when you can.

5 – Sur la plage (On the beach) pages 32-33 Cat 1 Mini story (Track 46): The beautiful castle - Story in French. A little boy is on a beach, building a sand castle. Everyone says it is beautiful. It is hot and the little boy goes to sleep. Trottine and Minou keep an eye on the castle and suddenly they see the tide coming in! Wake up! All three work hard to protect the castle, but after one big wave, it collapses and disappears. They all go and buy an ice cream. Guess which flavour? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

One boat floating on the water The sea is calm and the weather is lovely. One boat floating on the water. Two boats floating on the water, the sea is calm and the weather is lovely. Two boats floating on the water. Three boats ….. Four boats …. Five boats floating on the water, the sea is calm and the weather is lovely. Five boats sleeping on the water.

Cat 2 (Track 48) Listen and circle the odd one out. This is a listening activity. All words end with the sound ‘o’ except one. Cat 3 (Track 49) Listen for the word and circle it to choose the correct way to the beach. At home, your child could make up a new route (at Cat 3) to get to the beach. Say the French words as you go along! At the end of this module, your child should be fairly well equipped to perform some of the following in French: • Making friends with someone on the beach. • Asking someone to come and play. • Asking for or recognising things on the beach: bucket, rake, spade. • Playing at picking up shells or jumping and falling (!) in the water (saying it in French). • Describing what they are wearing and should be wearing in the sun. • Asking for a chocolate ice cream. Quite an achievement for a 5/6 year old!
