The erstwhile playing ground of Lord Krishna, Vrindavan (Vraj), Uttar Pradesh, is a highly sacred place amongst Hindus. It is said that the trees in this garden are spiritual beings that transform into Lord Krishna's romantic cohorts after dusk and the strange fact is that most of these otherwise healthy trees have inexplicably dry rotten roots. In fact, there is a firm belief that the Lord appears here and anybody who dares to stay here after dark does not live to tell the tale. In fact, there are graves in Vrindavan (Vraj), which are supposedly the final resting place of such curious visitors. Besides visiting the temples in and around Vrindavan (Vraj), one can also go for a leisurely boat cruise across the Yamuna.

Bankey Bihari Temple

Madan Mohan Banke Bihari Path, Bankebihari Colony, Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh 281001, India Bankey Bihari Temple is a major temple in Vrindavan dedicated to Lord Krishna. Mythologically, Krishna spent his childhood and teenage days in Vrindavan, so the idol here is in the form of Nand Gopal that is the childhood incarnation of Krishna. The idol is black in colour and is usually kept inside the premises behind the curtain. The people here have a strong belief that if some devotee looks at the idol with immense devotion the idol or the God goes away with him or her. To make this belief a strong one, the Pujaris keep putting curtain after every few minutes.

ISKCON Temple

One of the most magnificent and beautiful temples of Vrindavan, ISKCON Temple was built by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). The temple is popularly known as Raman-Reti and houses idols of Krishna and his brother Balaram, along with Radha besides her Shyam Sunder.

ISKCON Temple's complex is also the samadhi (final resting place) of the philosopher and founder of ISKCON, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, a white marble tomb that pays respect to his life and contributions. If you’re here around Janmashtami in September / October or for Holi in March, be sure to visit this temple for the sheer air of enthusiasm and celebration.

Sri Radha Raman Mandir

Nidhi Van is one of the most famous, religious and mysterious temples in Vrindavan. It has many interesting stories or myths behind it. It is believed that Lord Krishna comes after nightfall and performs spiritual activities (Lilas) with Radha and all his gopis. Inside the temple is beautifully ornamented statue of Lord Krishna and Radha. The park that surrounds is covered with small trees and is home to many monkeys.

Madan Mohan Temple

Nidhi Van Vrindavan, Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh, India Madan Mohan Temple is the oldest temple in Vrindavan and was built by Kapur Ram Das of Multan. It is located near the Kali Ghat. The temple is adorned with beautiful carvings and must be on your list of places to visit when in the city.

Sri Radha Raman Mandir is the one of the most revered temples of Vrindavan and has the original Shaligram deity of Lord Krishna as Radha Ramana, along side Radharani. The temple is also much admired for its mind-blowing crafts work. This shrine was constructed in 1542 AD at the request of Gopala Bhatta Goswami.
