Goals

• Reduce bus driver overtime expenses • Increase responsiveness to parents

Improved parent communication. E-Link has provided parents access to information quickly over Web whenever needed. For instance, new families in the community can immediately find out whether their children should walk or ride, the location of bus stops, and pickup and drop-off times.

• Reduce inefficient work currently done “by hand”

The Challenge: Prior to implementing Versatrans, the District worked to plan bus routes and to communicate with parents primarily by hand and in person, with the aid of some limited-function software. The time elapsed between a parent inquiry and the delivery of an answer was not expedient, often taking hours rather than minutes. Data related to bus stop locations, pickup/drop-off times, students and drivers was kept redundantly in several locations, not all easily accessible to secretaries, administrators, and parents. Additionally, research showed that the District was likely paying much more in driver overtime and gasoline costs than necessary. The transportation solutions committee recommended Versatrans as the one tried-and-true solution that could solve all these issues. Efficient implementation. The Tyler team worked with the
