Hello first grade students and families! We are just about to start the 3rd quarter so here’s some information for you to know.
DATES TO REMEMBER:
Monday, January 20---Schools Closed for MLK
Friday, January 24---Skating trip for elementary
Monday, February 17---Schools Closed for President’s Day Friday, February 28---Half day for students/Parent conferences Friday, March 28---End of 3rd quarter
Reading and Language Arts
All students took their mid-year reading assessment (otherwise known as DIBELS/TRC) in the past 2 weeks. I am proud to say that almost ALL of the students increased their reading levels! Some students even jumped up many levels! Their end of the year reading assessment will be given in May. I can’t wait to see how far they go! Keep up all that reading at home!
Math
During 3rd quarter our math units will be:
Unit 5: Ordering and Expressing Length Measurements as Numbers/ Graphing
Unit 6: Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction of Numbers to 40 (Part 1)
** In addition, we will review past skills and skill that will be tested on the Stanford 10 test in April.
Science/Social Studies
We will be studying weather, types of weather, and the water cycle in Science.
In Social Studies we will study and read books about famous Black Americans, presidents, and some US history!!
