Books Abroad Drive a Success! The student-council sponsored drive generated approximately 12 boxes and 4 bags of books, toys, clothing and more, for children in Africa! First periods competed against each other to donate the greatest number of items, with Ms. Krolczyk’s class coming in 1st place and winning a pizza party! Thanks to Ms. Sholars, Ms. Oakes and the student council for sponsoring the contest and helping make the drive a great success!

AMC8 results are in!!! Students who took the AMC8 test on November 19 can pick up their test booklet starting on December 16. Students will be given their test booklet and a list of the correct answers. Eighty-six students in grades 6 – 8 participated in the 25 question test. Students had 40 minutes to complete as many questions as they could. Scores were based on how many questions a student answered correctly out of 25. Based on the number of questions that each student answered correctly, the top ten students at MMJH are: (7 way tie) 9. Anushka H., Richard Z., Michelle L., Aaron N., Evelyn W., Lauren C., Yunsuk J. (tie) 7. Yeon K., Jay J. (tie) 5. Inyoung C., Eric T. 4. Sejin P. (tie) 2. Santiago C., Maya X. 1. Sunny T. Awards for participation and campus ranking will be given during awards ceremony in the spring. Awesome job to all participants!!!! We are so proud of all of the students who participated.

Spelling Bee Winner!

Congratulations to Santiago Cortes!! He is the 2013 National Geographic Geography Bee winner for MMJH.

Congratulations to our Spelling Bee winner, Clarisse Manuel, 7th grade, for winning with the word, assimilative!

Santiago will now take a written test which will be submitted to the National Geographic Society in Washington DC. Good luck, Santiago! We are all so proud of you.

The runner-up was Jacob Redland, 8th grade! A big thank you to Ms. Willms for organizing this massive undertaking. Also, great thanks to our excellent pronouncer, Tim Chesser, who pronounced many difficult words!!
