My Philosophy on Science Education • Science is the questioning of the world around you • Science is best learned through asking questions, thinking about your observations • Science is handson • Real science is always collaborative • Today being able to think is far more powerful than being able to memorize

The Nature of Science Science is about using questions to probe the world around us.
To question successfully we require three distinct skills
1. The ability to observe 2. The ability to ask questions 3. The ability to analyze information
Question :
What factors make up the design of a successful egg drop device?
Jan 2711:59 AM
The GDCI Eggdrop challenge
The challenge :
Constraints :
Steps :
In your group design, build and test a vehicle capable of transporting an egg from the ceiling of lab 3 to the floor without the egg cracking.
• the only materials that you can use are : 1 m of newsprint, 1 m of masking tape, 1 m of string • the egg must be put into the device at launch in under 15 seconds of time • no tape can be used on the egg • the egg must be in the device at the drop time • the device can not be larger than 50 cm x 50 cm x 50 cm
• form your group and take some time to introduce yourself • design several vehicles on paper. Your teacher will interview your group about the design that you will be going with. • build the device • test the device Aug 159:35 AM

The About Me page To be able to teach you successfully I need to know a little bit about you. One a single sheet of note paper I want you to write a short introduction. The introduction should be in full sentences (good practice for the literacy test) and should contain the following pieces of information. • • • • • • • •
Your name Your strengths Your weaknesses hobbies, interests how you did in grade 9 science what are you hoping to do this year at school any medical information that I need to know any difficulties that you may have this year in learning (i.e. test anxiety, disorganization) • the mark that you hope to achieve this year in science.
For example : Aug 1610:23 AM
Hello. My name is Mr. Jason Doble and I will be your teacher this year. I have been teaching for 6 years and I look forward to working with you throughout this semester. I strongly believe that learning only occurs when a student actively participates. Even though I have a great grasp on the material that I will be working with you sometimes my short attention span may get in the way. My goal is to help lead you along a learning path that will allow you to discover laws, trends and relationships in science through your own discovery; rather than hogging all the lime light by acting like I know everything and am the only way to learn.
