Here are a whole lot of activities relating to insects and other small creatures. As many of them also Buzz, I thought this would be good for the Buzz Theme. The Buzz theme clauses are: Ladybird: Check fire alarm/smoke detectors etc are working in your home. Know how to escape your home in case of fire. Baby bumblebee: Sing a song about bees Spider: Drink = it will give you a buzz when you drink it. Cup o worms: Use a household appliance that makes a buzz. (Thought the beater to mix up the pudding would work for this clause.) Get a Buzz (good feeling) after trying something you haven't tried before - I'm sure you will find something in the letter to cover this. Take part in Buzz Time - a chance for girls to share with the unit things they have done (usually clauses done for badges away from the meeting place). We will have a “BUZZ TIME” page in our next Lone District News – would be nice to have something from everyone to put in it.

You can do whatever you like from the following but if you want the BUZZ theme you will need to do the above activities.

Eencey Weencey spider Climbed up the water spout; Down came the rain And washed poor Eencey out; Out came the sun And dried up all the rain; And the Eencey Weencey spider Climbed up the spout again. Itsy Bitsy Spider Craft MATERIALS: Cardboard tube (gift wrap or paper towel) tinfoil yarn egg carton cup (the part that one egg goes into) piece of cardboard or a 3 1/4 inch diskette (temporary use) tape glue scissors INSTRUCTIONS: Cover the tube in tinfoil and tape on to make your spout Make a yarn pom pom: wrap yarn around the diskette or piece of cardboard about 30 times. Slide off and tie in the center snip loop ends Apply glue LIBERALLY all over the egg carton cup and drape the yarn pom pom over top. press down firmly let dry completely Make legs: accordion fold two 1/2 inch x 8 inch strips of black construction paper to make a leg. tape it to the egg carton cup do this 7 more times (we ran out of energy after 4 legs, so made 4 accordion legs and 4 braided wool legs!) Glue a face on your spider. We just used snippets of white paper and a black marker Tie a piece of wool that is 2 1/2 times the length of the water spout onto the spider. Put the wool through the spout. The child can pull the end of the wool to make the spider climb up the OUTSIDE of the water spout and let go of the wool so the spider falls down (when the rain washes the spider out).

Heart Butterfly Paper Craft Materials: Paper or card

glue

scissors

something to colour with Pipecleaner

Directions: Cut out the template pieces and glue on to coloured paper, construction card etc or colour in pieces. (the pieces on the template are at about the angle they will be on the finished craft. That should help you sort out which pieces belong where) Glue pieces together as follows:

To make a wing, glue the very large, large and medium hearts inside one another.

Repeat for the second wing.

To make the body, stack the smallest hearts one on top of another and glue together. Position so the hearts are all upside down.

Glue the heart with the face onto the top of the body so it's right side up.

Fold the pipe cleaner in half and glue to underside of face heart. Add the two tiny hearts over the head as antenna to each end of the pipecleaner.

Glue the wings onto the back of the body to complete your butterfly.
