Nomenclatural changes in leafcutter bees of the Americas: Megachile Latreille 1802 (Hymenoptera; Megachilidae) ANTHONY RAW Departamento de Ciências Biológicas, Universidade Estadual de Santa Cruz, Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil. 45650000. [email protected]

Abstract Five species of Megachile are placed in their correct subgenera, raising the total number of correctly placed species of this genus to 519 in the Americas. Megachile (Dasymegachile) mitchelli new name is proposed for Cressoniella (Chaetochile) golbachi Schwimmer, in Mitchell, 1980. Key words: Hymenoptera, Megachilidae, Megachile, subgeneric allocation, new name

Introduction Five species of leafcutter bees, Megachile Latreille 1802 (Hymenoptera; Megachilidae) of the Americas are placed in their correct subgenera and one is renamed. Five holotypes were examined and one change is based on museum specimens. A total of 519 species of the Americas are now allocated to their correct subgenera (Durante and Abrahamovich 2002, Raw 2002, 2004, Genaro 2003).

is based on examination of a series of seven females and three males collected in Santa Catarina State in southern Brazil by Srta. Denise Mouga. Although the bees were not reared from a nest, no other bee similar to them was encountered during a survey which included 115 specimens of Megachile. The female of M. possograndensis bears the slight indentation at the centre of the apical margin of the labrum and narrow sixth sternite typical of the subgenus Moureapis, though the inner angle of the mandible is acute. However the male is clearly a Pseudocentron with greatly expanded ivory fore basitarsi. The fore basitarsi of Moureapis are unmodified.

Acknowledgement I thank Srta. Denise Mouga of the Departamento de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo for the loan of specimens of Megachile possograndensis.
